Team Canada Veteran Impressed With Cory Joseph

Aug 21, 2011 1:46 PM

Levon Kendall, a longtime veteran of Team Canada, has been impressed with Cory Joseph.

“I’ve been most impressed with his attitude, not having a sense of entitlement (from being a first round selection),” said Kendall.

“He understands guys have been here (a while), he’s got to prove himself before he gets that respect. He has to earn it to a certain extent so that’s what I’ve been most surprised (about). It’s nice to see that.”

Rautins Empathetic Of Thompson's Decision Not To Play

Aug 20, 2011 11:12 AM

Leo Rautins, head coach of Canada, was asked about the absence of Tristan Thompson during their Olympic qualifying.

"I don’t think there’s a negative with Tristan. He’s told me he wants to play, he’s told everybody else he wants to play, it’s not that he doesn’t want to deal with it.

"All of our conversations with Tristan’s people are, one, he made a promise to his mom academically to do some stuff and, two, the word was he was just physically wiped out. I can tell you, I watched what Andy (Rautins, a Knicks draft pick in 2010) went through last year in the pre-draft stuff, he was wiped out and that might have led to what happened later in the summer, he was exhausted. I’m not going to question that.

"Tristan’s a great kid, he’s been involved in our camps as a high schooler, there’s no negative there.

"If people want to make one out of that, I think that’s just looking for something."

Jaylen Bond Gives Texas Verbal Commitment

Aug 3, 2011 11:22 AM

Jaylen Bond gave a verbal commitment to Texas on Tuesday.

Bond will enroll in classes for the fall semester on Aug. 19. The 6-foot-7, 219-pound swingman backed out of a scholarship to Pittsburgh in March in order to spend next year at St. Thomas More School in Connecticut.

But Bond opted to go to Texas instead of prep school. The 18-year-old will be eligible to play for Texas this upcoming season only if Pittsburgh releases him from his scholarship.

He had scholarship offers from Temple, Penn State, St. Joseph’s and Tennessee for the class of 2012.
